  • Overview

    The Photography Assistant will take part in overseeing equipment needs in assigned studios throughout the duration of the shoot, while interacting with clients and providing the highest level of service.


    • Set up the cameras, tripods, lights, and other equipment in studio, preparing the set according to client requests and the photography needs, including placing props and adjusting light sources
    • Develop and maintain SOP for key Clients: Lighting Diagrams, Digital Asset Management ( crops, naming conventions etc)
    • Assist with general studio maintenance when needed. Including lighting, painting sweeps, organizing and cleaning the space, helping anyone who needs help when available, removal of trash at the end of the day, etc.
    • Assistants should be prepared to shoot on set at any time during simpler productions
    • Assist moving merchandise, sets and props as required
    • Working with clients throughout the day during check-in and check-out process of grip and lighting equipment at the studio or on location
    • Be available for help with rental clients
    • Serve as the point of communication to digi-techs for all digital services
    • Quickly executing all other duties as assigned by management 
    • Keep track of equipment inventory on a daily basis. Creating stock checks and short lists to establish and maintain accurate inventory counts
    • Locate additional equipment from local sources when not available in inventory. Ensuring that all sub-rented gear is picked up from and returned to the correct vendors
    • Keep computer equipment ready for use on set
    • Checking and testing all grip and lighting equipment to ensure proper functioning prior to client use properly assessing and completing minor repairs to equipment


    • 2 years college at accredited Art/Photography institution or 4 years relevant experience
    • Minimum 1 year prior experience with digital photography studio equipment assistance
    • Experience with both full production and the rental business
    • Excellent time management and people skills
    • Should be knowledgeable in Mac OSX, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
    • Understand how to use appropriate lighting, shutter speeds, filters, and lenses
    • Interpersonal skills – successfully working alongside the photographer and clients requires people skills, flexibility, teamwork, and clear communication at all times
